Travel to Dhaka

Introduction

This section complements the International Investment Summit’s website (www.bidaevents.gov.bd), which contains updated detailed logistical information, including updated schedule of the summit. Participants are requested to visit the website regularly before and during the Summit for the latest information.

The Venue

The International Investment Summit 2021, Bangladesh (IIS) will take place at the Radisson Blu Dhaka Water Garden , at the Airport Road, Dhaka Cantonment, Dhaka, 1206, Bangladesh. The venue has world-class five-star amenities including top tier rooms & suits, a glistening outdoor pool, a soothing spa, an adjacent golf course, and a host of on-site dining options.

During the Summit, various knowledge-sharing and flagship events will be held featuring top-level panelists from governments, international & regional organizations, private sector, academia, and civil society. The knowledge-sharing events program provides a dynamic platform to discuss economic, financial, and development issues of Bangladesh. Detailed schedule can be found at www.bidaevents.gov.bd.

Registration

All delegates and participants are requested to register online by following the step-by-step process explained on the IIS website: http://bidaevents.gov.bd/registration. Interested participants who want to attend the Summit physically are requested to complete registration before 25th November, 2021.

Accreditation and ID Badges

IIS Registration Desk will be located at the venue of the meetings, “Radisson Blu Dhaka Water Garden” and it will be open at 08:00 on Sunday, 28th November 2021 until the closure of the meetings on Monday, 29th November 2021.

ID Badges

ID badges will be required for entrance into the Plenary Meetings, meeting rooms, and offices. Participants are also required to wear their ID badges at all times while at the venue. IIS badges must bear a recent photograph of the registrant; hence, participants should upload their photos when registering online. Also, participants must show passports or other government-issued photo identification document to obtain their badges from the registration counter. Report lost/ missing badges to Registration Counter at the venue.

Passports and Visa Requirements

All delegates and participants should ensure that their passport's validity exceeds six months, and in all cases, longer than the stay’s duration. Delegates and participants should ensure they obtain a valid visa before entering Bangladesh. Delegates and participants can get a Bangladeshi visa by two ways. Primarily, Visa on arrival (VoA) facility will be provided to foreign nationals with the objective of facilitating International Investment Summit Bangladesh 2021. VoA may be issued up to 30 days with single entry upon arrival by the immigration authority at the designated entry points of Bangladesh.

  • VoA may be issued to the citizens of those countries where there is no diplomatic representation of Bangladesh and the purposes of the arrival being government duties, business, investment and tourism.
  • For the purpose of government duties, business, investment, VoA may be issued by the immigration authorities at the designated entry points to visitors from Nepal, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, China, Japan, South Korea, Brunei, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman, Bahrain, Egypt, USA, Canada, Brazil, Australia, New Zealand, Russia, Turkey, UK and EU countries upon satisfactory verification of all necessary documents.

Secondly those, who are not included in this category and require a Bangladeshi visa to enter Bangladesh. Participators are requested to obtain a Bangladeshi visa from their nearest Bangladeshi mission. For facilitating their visa process, they can apply for a Visa Recommendation Letter to Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) through OSS (https://bidaquickserv.org). After receiving the request, BIDA will issue a visa recommendation letter for the applicant. Participants need to go Embassy of the People's Republic of Bangladesh of their respective country to collect their visa with their visa recommendation letter.

*Visa on Arrival: Suspended except for the Investor and Business category in the COVID-19 situation. Ref: Security Services Division, Ministry of Home Affairs Memo No. 58.00.0000.044.34.002.21.48 dated 8 July 2021. Currently this facility is available for the investors and businessmen only (Considering the Covid-19 situation), it will be soon available for all citizens from the aforementioned countries.

Airport Reception

Protocol officers will be available at Hazrat Shajalal International Airport to assist delegates’ entry and departure.

Transport service will be available for participants from the airport to the hotels and from these hotels to the Summit venue.

Information Desk

Will be located throughout the summit venue during 27th November – 29th November 2021 to handle general inquiries.

Media Center

IIS media center will be set up at the Summit venue to enable journalists and media representatives to work properly. A detailed program of activities before and during the Summit will be provided. Media representatives are requested to contact the Communication Office at the Media Center for information about the Summit’s side events and associated activities or any requests for formal interviews.

Limited Medical Facilities

Will be available in the Summit Venue and selected hotels. Although primary medical care will be provided, it is advisable that delegates have an international travel insurance policy.

About Bangladesh

Currency and Exchange Rate

The People's Republic of Bangladesh's official currency is the Bangladesh Taka (BDT); it has an average exchange rate of USD 1= BDT 85.20 (August 2021). Foreign currencies can be exchanged in banks, currency exchange offices, and major hotels. You may contact the hotel you are staying at for currency exchange facilities. Foreign currency exchange booth is available in the international terminal building of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.

Baggage Rules

Travelers carrying dutiable goods must fill a baggage declaration form with a description and quantity of goods they have brought. There are three different Baggage Rules issued by the National Board of Revenue for tourists and non-tourist travelers.

For more information on the baggage rules, please visit the Bangladesh Customs website. Each traveller can carry up to US$10,000 without declaration while departing or entering Bangladesh.

Electricity

The normal voltage in Bangladesh is 220 volts and the standard frequency is 50 Hz. AC two/three-pin plugs types of power supply plugs used in Bangladesh. EU plugs (2-pin) can easily be used as well.

Climate

The climate in Dhaka during November can be summarized as hot, humid and reasonably dry. November is in the fall / autumn in Dhaka and is typically the 4th coldest month of the year. Daytime maximum temperatures average around a muggy 30°C (86°F), whilst at night 19°C (66°F) is normal.

Business casual.

Language

Although Bangla (Bengali) is the official language of Bangladesh, English is widely spoken and used in official and business circles.

Working Hours

Bangladesh Standard Time is six hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT+6). Public Service Offices: Open from 09:00 to 17:00 (Sunday to Thursday). Banks: Open from 10:00 to 16:00 00 (Sunday to Thursday). Companies: Open from 09:00 to 18:00 or from 08:00 to 17:00 from (Sunday to Thursday). Shops are open every day from 08:00 to 21:00. The weekly days off: Friday and Saturday.
